HPLC Columns Based on TYPE-C™ Silica-Hydride Unbonded
The Cogent Silica-C™ HPLC column is made starting with ultra high purity Type-B (low metals) silica. Then
using our proprietary manufacturing technology, the Cogent Silica-C™. The Type-B silica is converted to
TYPE-C™ by forming a silicon hydride surface. Made completely free of carbon, this unique silica particle
will adsorb and desorb solvents commonly used in mobile phases very differently resulting fantastic benefits
to the chromatographer.
Since these columns have virtually no silanols remaining (less than 3%), they do not have a strong association
with water and other solvents. This allows you to use these columns for normal phase HPLC without having to
concern yourself with the moisture content of the solvents. Typically, this can be a very tedious and costly
procedure which is now eliminated with Cogent Silica-C™.
These columns are an excellent choice for normal phase and preparative chromatography for the above reason and
because they produce a very unique selectivity and retention ability. Also, these columns, even though they are
carbon free, can be used to retain some polar compounds in Aqueous Normal Phase making it a favorite of many
doing LCMS.
