Comparison of Type-B v. TYPE-C Silica™ – Page 2

A comparison of type B and the evolutionary TYPE-C Silica™ shows that our patented technology extends the standard growth of a spherical silica particle by replacing with hydrogen (H) the hydroxyl (OH) groups of silanols on a standard non TYPE-C phase. This is acheived by laying down one additional layer of standard silica, but now with silicon-hydride (H) groups exposed to the eluent surface instead of Silanol (O-H). This hydride (H) is, compared to silanol groups (O-H), a relatively non-polar surface with little attraction to water molecules.

Changes from aqueous to non aqueous solvents,or to different pH’s in aqueous phases, can be made rapidly with little hysteresis (memory effect). TYPE-C™ is a natural evolution of type B but without many of the adverse effects free silanol groups.
