Another advantage of having a Silica-Hydride surface is that bonding complex ligands is relatively straightforward
for any molecule containing a double or triple bond or to which a short carbon chain terminating in a double or
triple bond can be attached. This is quite liberating compared to earlier evolutions of silica (irregular, type A
or type B) with silanol sites, as such base materials can only bond organo-silanes and these are available in a
limited range of chemistries.
