RSA Glass – Reduced Surface Activity Glass A new generation of glass reduces the interaction of analytes and the glass.
Made with a proprietary glass manufacturing process, RSA Glass vials and inserts have reduced surface activity due to the elimination of virtually all silanols (hydroxyl groups) that can have deleterious effects on your analytes and sample solutions before injection into your LC or GC. RSA autosampler vials and glass inserts are not manufactured using any coating of any type. The silanols on the glass surface are significantly reduced during the manufacturing of the glass making them an excellent choice for GC and GCMS. When using standard borosilicate glass vials and inserts the sample diluents (such as water) can de-protonate the many hydroxyl groups which produces a negative charge on the glass wall. The “acidic” functionalilty of these silanols has been known to cause adsorption of basic compounds, change the pH of the sample solution and or hydrolyze some susceptible compounds making them undetectable. With RSA Glass vials and inserts there is virtually no “loss to the vial” and there is no “pH shifting” making your analysis more reliable. If you are working with low abundance basic samples with regular glass vials, it is very possible that your compounds could easily be adsorbed onto the glass wall thus changing your quantitation or completely removing the compound from the solution preventing injection and ultimately masking its detection and identification. This will not happen with RSA Glass vials and inserts if the adsorption is due to the interaction with the silanols. If you working with sensitive compounds commonly found in natural products, biological samples or in chemical synthesis, the glass wall could be a problem for your basic compounds. With RSA glass vials, this problem is eliminated as well. If you are working with basic proteins that adsorb to silanols or affected in anyway by the silanols, RSA Glass vials and inserts will be a good solution for you. If your proteins are sticking to the glass due to adsorption to the siloxane surface, RSA Glass provide an almost completely silanized surface if that option is desired. The results of silanizing RSA Glass over standard borosilicate glass is far superior for proteins and peptides. The RSA glass has been tested for metals that may contaminate your sample or sample diluent and has found to have ULTRA low levels of Sodium, Calcium, Aluminum and Boron. Sodium and Boron levels were 200 to 300 times less concentrated compared to leading manufacturers and Calcium and Aluminium were almost non detectable. This test was done using ICP with water from the vials for a 4 hour "soak" time. There is no significant cost increase for using RSA Glass vials and inserts that are QC tested to meet or exceed any commercially “certified” vial or insert. That is our promise. |
