Verifying Your New Cogent™ HPLC Column

When you receive a new Cogent™ HPLC column, it’s essential to confirm its performance before routine use. This quick verification not only ensures optimal operation but also helps us expedite resolution if a defective column has slipped through Quality Control.

Start by checking peak symmetry and column efficiency. Each column includes a packing test chromatogram showing original QC metrics—such as peak shape and plate count—under specific test conditions. By replicating these conditions and injecting the same analytes, you can compare your results to the reference values provided.

If your results differ significantly, it may indicate:

  • A potential issue with the stationary phase, or
  • An instrument-related factor, such as excessive extra-column volume, which can distort peak shape.

Running this initial test is the fastest way to identify whether any performance concerns stem from the column or the system.
