HPLC Column, RP C8 Octyl, 3um, 2.1mm ID x 50mm Length, 100A. Cogent Brand. 1 EA.
Additional Information:
Cogent RP C8 Octyl™ is a versatile reversed-phase HPLC stationary phase designed for the separation of hydrophobic and neutral compounds. Manufactured using a traditional octyl (C8) bonded phase on ultra-high purity silica and fully double end capped, it provides strong hydrophobic interactions while often offering reduced retention compared to C18 phases. As a USP L7 equivalent phase, it is widely used for method replacement, method development, and routine analytical separations where balanced retention and selectivity are desired.
68308-05P-2 is an HPLC column packed with 3 µm RP C8 Octyl™ particles featuring a 100 Å pore size in a 2.1 mm ID x 50 mm format. This popular narrow-bore configuration is designed for rapid separations with reduced solvent consumption. The 3 µm particles provide greater efficiency and sharper peaks than comparable 5 µm columns, while the short 50 mm length minimizes analysis times. Typical operating flow rates are approximately 0.2–0.3 mL/min. Because of the low flow rates required by 2.1 mm ID columns, HPLC systems must be capable of precise and reproducible low-flow operation, and detector flow cells should be appropriately configured for low-volume applications.
This column is particularly useful for hydrophobic and neutral compounds in reversed-phase chromatography and is especially well suited for long-chain fatty acid analysis. The narrow-bore format is also highly popular for LC-MS applications where lower solvent consumption, improved sensitivity, and short run times are desirable. As with all 3 µm columns, backpressure will be higher than comparable 5 µm columns, and longer columns used with viscous mobile phases may approach system pressure limitations.

Important Notes
Suitable for conventional HPLC and LC-MS systems
3 µm particles provide higher efficiency and sharper peaks than comparable 5 µm columns
Generates higher backpressure than larger particle columns
The 2.1 mm ID format is commonly used for LC-MS applications
Standard HPLC systems must be capable of precise and reproducible operation at approximately 0.2–0.3 mL/min
Detector flow cells should be optimized for low-volume, narrow-bore chromatography
The 50 mm length provides rapid analysis and increased sample throughput
Particularly useful for long-chain fatty acid separations
Methods using longer columns and viscous mobile phases may approach instrument pressure limits
Commonly used as an alternative for USP L7 methods
