Assembly Procedure for Cogent Guard Column Holder Installation

1. Component Inspection

  • Verify the guard cartridge matches specified requirements and is compatible with the HPLC Column stationary phase.

2. Holder Preparation

  • Disassemble the guard column holder if necessary.

3. Cartridge Insertion

  • Place the guard cartridge into the holder cavity. Note: Flow direction is not defined for cartridges in this configuration.

    • Do not apply excessive force during insertion.

4. Cartridge Securing

  • Reassemble the holder with thread alignment.
  • Finger-tighten securely, then apply an additional 1/8" clockwise turn using a 3/8" wrench  to ensure seal integrity.

5. Leak Testing

  • Connect the holder to the system using standard tubing.
  • Conduct a low-pressure test to evaluate seal performance.

Leak Detection Method: Use the folded edge of a Kimwipe (lint-free paper) to touch the junction area of the column holder. If solvent is absorbed, incrementally tighten fittings in small amounts and retest until leakage ceases.

6. Setup Finalization

  • Record cartridge details in the maintenance log (e.g., part number, installation date).
  • Perform the r ecommended column performance test to establish baseline values for pressure and chromatographic behavior. This enables future verification if performance changes are observed.
