Why Longer Tubing Lengths of PTFE, PFA, FEP and ETFE Are More Expensive & Not Available.

Although a single 1,000 meter long length of tubing on a roll might seem more efficient than multiple spools to combine the same total, winding an uninterrupted 1,000 meter run also places excessive stress on the tubing during spooling.

During the manufacturing process, tubing dimensions are carefully monitored to ensure they meet strict specifications. However, if a deviation is detected after, for example, 800 meters of tubing have already been produced, the entire 800 meters must be discarded. This risk of material loss contributes significantly to the higher cost of longer tubing lengths.

A continiuous 1,000 meter run subjects the material to excessive tension and compression, risking damage during winding. The required spool would also be unwieldy, and spooling tubing at that length can lead to physical damage due to excessive tension and compression during winding.

Additionally, the spool size required would be impractically large, and the tubing could become stretched, flattened, or kinked during extrusion and storage.

To protect the tubing’s integrity and ensure consistent performance, we cap our spool length at 300 meters.
