Additional Info:

The 40018‑15P Cogent Bidentate C18™ HPLC Column is a long‑format analytical column designed to deliver maximum resolving power while retaining the unique advantages of TYPE‑C™ silica hydride technology. This column is frequently selected when challenging mixtures require greater peak capacity than shorter formats can provide, or when method robustness under aggressive conditions is essential.

The stationary phase consists of an aliphatic C18 chain bonded via two direct silicon–carbon bonds (bidentate attachment) to a silica hydride surface. This non‑traditional C18 chemistry produces a phase that is extremely hydrophobic yet versatile, capable of retaining compounds that often exhibit little or no retention on conventional silica‑based C18 columns.

Unlike standard C18 phases, the Bidentate C18™ can be operated with 100 % aqueous mobile phases without phase collapse and can tolerate very low pH conditions (below pH 2) with no damage to the column. These properties enable method development across a wider operating window than traditional reversed‑phase materials.

Reversed‑Phase and HILIC‑Mode Flexibility

One of the distinguishing attributes of TYPE‑C™ silica hydride columns is their ability to function beyond conventional reversed‑phase chromatography. The 40018‑15P is commonly chosen for:

  • Reversed‑phase separations requiring enhanced resolution

  • HILIC‑phase–style methods for small, highly polar compounds, particularly when using UV detection

In HILIC‑like conditions, the hydride surface chemistry enables rapid separations of polar analytes with improved reproducibility compared to traditional silica‑based HILIC phases.
